Madeline was diagnosed with undifferentiated sarcoma on December 10, 2003, when she was almost five months old. At diagnosis, tumors were found in her bladder and in the area between her spine and spinal cord. Much of the spinal mass was removed surgically, and she began chemotherapy the day before Christmas Eve. Although subsequent scans showed good response of the tumors, nearly eight months into therapy the disease returned in her spine and spread to her brain and central nervous system. She lost her battle on August 21, 2004 at the age of 13 months. Maddy was a very bright and happy child who thrived in the love and attention of many devoted family members and loved ones. She loved looking at books, playing pat-a-cake, blowing kisses, clapping to B-I-N-G-O, and dancing to music. It is our hope that our efforts will contribute to finding a cure for childhood cancer, so that one day diseases like this will no longer threaten such young and promising lives.
