Chance

Hi my name is Chance and I am a survivor of cancer. I was born in 1989 and am 14 years old now. My mom kept taking me to doctors because I had febrile seizures but they said that was normal. When I was 2 ½ I started acting strange and doing weird things and having seizures again. Mom took me to doctor after doctor to no avail.

Finally a doctor at Primary Care Plus in Fayetteville NC saw what was up and ordered a CT. That was Thursday. Friday we went to Duke University so they could stop the seizures and operate. Seems I had a brain tumor. I saw Angels in the room when they were prepping me for surgery and mom thought they were coming to take me. No, they came to stand by me and hold Dr. Fuchs' hand. I have malignant meniginoma, the number 1 cause of solid brain tumor deaths in kids today. When I was diagnosed, this cancer was always in adult females over 35 and always benign. Well, guess what? I never do things the easy way - LOL.

One doctor told my mom I had less than a year to live. So many have said it will come back somewhere in me. I have uncontrolled seizures and I am homebound from school. I am on the waiting list for a seizure dog, then mom can go back to work. My dad left - he couldn't handle me being sick and we haven't heard from him in over 6 years.

Mom says God has a special plan for me and he doesn't need me in Heaven yet. I am here for a reason and have my illness for a reason and I think it is to make so many people understand love and compassion.

May God bless you all. Love, Chance
